At the end of the design chapter was a portfolio of exercises that you can do to help develope your mind. I chose to do and activity called channel your annoyance. I chose two things that I was annoyed with. One is more extreme and the other is more realistic. The first thing was my birds cage and how it seems to get dirty so fast and I don't like to take 10 minutes to clean it every day. So I designed something like the kitty litter once an hour scrapers that go automatically. But this one would spray out a low streem of water onto the bottom of the cage and them a scraper would run accross it to clean it up. All of the junk would be dragged into a cabin in the back that is below the cage.
The more extreme thing that I decided needed an update was how we do laundry. My invention was a laundery shoot that went from your room directly down into the washing machine, which was by the way an all in one machine (washer and dryer). Once the machine was full, a red light would flash signaling the shoot to move away from the machine. The lid would then close and the washing process would start. Once that was done the machine would automatically start drying it. Once all of that was finished then the shoot would go back over to the machine and the lid would open. Then the clothes would be sucked back up into your room where they would fall into the basket that is outside of the hole. Now, I know that this is a little extreme but, I designed it!
I really enjoyed doing this and would like to see more design incorporated in what we do at school through projects and things like that.
